SANTA ANA, Calif - The No. 2 seeded Santa Ana College baseball team slugged its way to the 3C2A Super Regionals, winning all three games in the Regional that also featured the No.15 seeded Orange Coast Pirates and the No. 23 seed in the Cerro Coso Coyotes.
The Dons started the tournament off by ending the Pirates season with a 17-8 win on day one.
Matthew Solorzano came up big for SAC after unexpectedly being called on relief in the first inning. The sophomore allowed just one run in four and a third innings to give the Dons the chance to come back.
Offensively, Santa Ana looked locked in as they posted 17 hits in the ball game. Nikko Paoletto drove in six runs on four hits to lead the way.
On day two, the Dons stayed hot as they throttled Cerro Coso with 24 runs on 25 hits to cruise to another win.
Jack Mueller, Nathaniel Williams and Paoletto collected three hits a piece while Zach Ireland held his own on the mound, going five and two thirds to earn his seventh win.
The Dons wrapped things up on day three with another come from behind win. Despite giving up three runs in the first, Andrew Phillips battled on the mound and held the Coyotes scoreless over the next five innings. He struck out eight and picked up his sixth win of the year.
Ken Tomitaka went 4-of-5 at the plate while Aiden Marquez and Aidan Haller posted two hits and a pair of RBI each.
Santa Ana will now prepare to host No. 7 Citrus in the 3C2A Super Regional from May 7-9. Game one is set for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
