Bullpen Impresses as No. 5 Dons Walk-Off Canyons in 12 innings
No. 5 Santa Ana collected their 10th win of the season with a walk-off against Canyons on Tuesday.
SANTA ANA, Calif - The No. 5 ranked Santa Ana College baseball team leaned on their bullpen to keep the College of the Canyons Cougars (4-7) at bay during their 4-3 walk-off win on Tuesday afternoon.
The Dons (10-1) used five bullpen arms that threw a combined 10 and a third innings with just one earned run.
Freshman right hander Andrew Phillips accounted for the bulk of those innings as he struck out six in five and a third with just one run allowed in his fourth appearance of the year.
The ball was then handed to JP Sova (1IP), Bruno Banuelos (2IP, 3SO), Jack Fishel (1.1IP, 2SO) and Adrian Villegas (0.2IP, 2SO,1SV) in order. The group was lights out when they needed to be as the Dons recorded their lowest run total of the year.
Offensively, SAC posted 11 hits with Aiden Marquez, Nathaniel Williams, Jack Mueller and Treson Arita posting two hits each.
But freshman outfielder Evan Reiter became the hero as the freshman outfielder came up big when it mattered with a single to center in the 12th to drive home Brody Wells for the first walk-off win of the season.
The Dons will be back at home on Friday at noon to host Imperial Valley (6-7) in another non-conference game.
