SANTA ANA, Calif - No. 8 Santa Ana baseball routed the LA Valley Monarchs (4-3) on Saturday afternoon with a 21-0 shutout to improve to 6-1 on the year.
Ben Melendrez and Kentaro Naka came off the bench to provide the power needed for the Dons to open the flood gates as the two infielders put together a line of 3-for-3 with eight runs batted in.
Nine more Dons recorded hits in the game while the pitching staff combined for six hit shutout.
Brayden Johnson notched his first win after going two and two thirds with three strikeouts. The left-handed freshman out of Glendora pitched his way out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning by inducing a 1-2-3 double play followed by a line out to end the threat.
Santa Ana will be back at home on Tuesday to host Chaffey at 1:00 p.m.
