Dons Defeat OCC 4-2 To Begin Series
Santa Ana held off the OCC Pirates in game one of their series on Tuesday.
SANTA ANA, Calif - The Santa Ana College softball team opened up their three game series against the Orange Coast Pirates (5-9, 2-2) with a 4-2 win on Tuesday afternoon.
Ihilani Berard threw seven solid innings to earn her third win of the season. The freshman out of Santiago High gave up just two runs (1 earned) while fanning four batters.
The Dons (3-13, 1-3) also had significant contributions from sophomore infielders Gracie Barrios and Kalani Gonzales.
Barrios made the move from second base to shortstop and held her own defensively. She also drove home a couple of insurance runs for SAC with a double to right centerfield in the fifth inning.
And Gonzales returned to the lineup, giving the Dons some much needed production with a go-ahead two run double in the fourth.
Santa Ana hopes to take the momentum to game two when they travel to OCC on Thursday. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
