SANTA ANA, Calif - No. 19 Santa Ana men's basketball was on upset alert as they trailed the Orange Coast Pirates (1-22, 0-9) by 16 with just under eight minutes left to play in Wednesday's Orange Empire Conference (OEC) contest.
But an offensive eruption from Aaron De Santiago and a game winning floater by Cameron Swist bailed the Dons (19-4, 5-4) out and gave them an 82-80 win.
De Santiago finished with 25 points (21 in the second half) on 8-of-15 shooting. The only Don to join him in double-digits was Serigne Saliou Mbaye, who posted 12 points, five rebounds and three steals in just 17 minutes off the bench.
Santa Ana stays locked in the fourth place spot in the OEC standings after the win. They will be back at home to host No. 2 Fullerton on Friday at 5:00 p.m. A win against the Hornets would improve their resume dramatically with the regional playoffs just around the corner.
