SAC Volleyball Defeats RCC 3-1, Extends Win Streak to 3
The Dons have won three straight after defeating Riverside City 3-1 in OEC play on Friday.
SANTA ANA, Calif. - Santa Ana College Volleyball flipped the switch in the second set of Friday's Orange Empire Conference match against Riverside City (5-15, 3-6) as they regained the momentum to win three straight.
The Dons (7-11, 3-6) looked outmatched in the first set after a 25-15 loss but made adjustments to their defense and found their rhythm offensively.
Cydelle Sanchez and Olivia Starr shored up the holes at the net as they blocked a handful of quick and dump attacks to slow down the Tigers. Sanchez finished with two solo blocks and two assists while Starr added an assist.
Santa Ana was able to turn that defense into offense, allowing setters Alexis Tortola (23 assists) and Hadassah Miranda (13 assists) to share the ball evenly.
Dayana Avila (11) and Lyric Birdsong (10) led the Dons with 21 kills combined but it was Natalie Peter, Alexis Esparza and Sanchez that added the much needed threat to offense as the trio recorded 24 total kills.
SAC extended their winning streak to three games and hope to use that in an upset bid against No. 4 ranked Orange Coast on Wednesday night.
