Dons Drop First National Northern League Game against AHC
SAC Football is still in search of their first win after dropping their National Northern League opener to Allan Hancock in week four.
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Freshman wide receiver Deacon Moss had an enormous day but it wasn't enough as the Santa Ana College Football team fell to Allan Hancock (2-2, 1-0) in their first National Northern League game of the year.
Moss, a standout out of Irvine High, caught four passes for 141 yards and three touchdowns in the 39-20 loss to the AHC Bulldogs. He leads the team in almost every receiving stat and is tied for seventh in the state with five touchdowns through four games.
Sophomore quarterback Justin Gil got his second start of the season and went 13-27 with 186 passing yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Meanwhile, the run game was handled by Brandon Giron and Anthony Abad who combined for 78 yards on 24 carries.
Defensively, the Dons (0-4, 0-1) struggled to stop the run as the Bulldogs posted 291 yards of rushing yards, which also helped them control the clock with a 35 to 21 minute time of possession advantage.
Wallace Filemu once again led the Dons in tackles with eight to go with a blocked field goal attempt while Josh Patton collected eight himself. Mac Wolf was also active on that side of the ball, finishing with seven tackles, a sack and two tackles for loss.
SAC will head back home for week five of the season still in search of their first win. They will host the Citrus Owls (3-1, 1-0) who are coming off one of the biggest upset wins of the season after beating No. 2 ranked Mt. SAC, 48-43.
Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at Santa Ana Stadium on Saturday, September 26th.
