Birdsong, Brittin Lead Dons to Victory in Five Set Thriller
Santa Ana Volleyball will head to OEC play with a 5-4 record after defeating San Diego City in a five set thriller on Monday night.

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Freshmen standouts Lyric Birdsong and Sara Brittin led the Santa Ana College Volleyball team to a big win in a five set thriller against the San Diego City Knights (0-4) on Monday night.
Birdsong, an outside hitter out of Cypress, collected 17 kills and eight digs in addition to going on a run in the clutch with the majority of her six aces coming in the fifth set.
The Dons (5-4) asked a lot of Brittin in the middle and she delivered time and time again. The explosive freshman from Redlands had 13 kills and four digs but really controlled the game at the net with five solo blocks.
Fellow freshman Mia Kotani added 10 kills and 10 digs while Erica Valle pitched in with seven digs, five kills and three block assists.
Setter Alexis Tortola recorded her second highest assist total with 39 to go with six digs.
With the win, the Dons have pushed just over a .500 record at 5-4 and hope to take that momentum into Orange Empire Conference play which starts this Friday. SAC will host Golden West (2-4) at 6:00 p.m.
