Sand Volleyball Added to Dons List of Offered Sports
The CCCAA officially recognized the up-and-coming sport on July 1, 2014 paving the way for a Dons team in the 2015 season.
The California Community College Athletic Association passed legislation last spring to officially add sand volleyball as a CCCAA sanctioned intercollegiate sport. Following the legislation, the Santa Ana College athletic department announced that it would offer sand volleyball as an intercollegiate sport.
The Dons had previously competed for two seasons under club status and even qualified for the 2014 playoffs. Troy Abbey, who also coaches indoor volleyball, will be the head coach for the new team.
The Dons will take on Golden West College on February 27 in a scrimmage before officially kicking off the season on March 13 against Riverside City College and Cypress College. Both of the matches on March 13 will be played at Irvine Valley College.
