Dons Leave 13 Stranded in 7-4 Loss to Golden West

SANTA ANA, Calif. –  13 runners left on base was the noteworthy stat of the day for the Santa Ana College Baseball team in Thursday's 7-4 loss to the Golden West Rustlers.

The Dons had plenty of opportunities to score runs in the game but came up short with the bases loaded multiple times. A ground ball double play cut their rally short in the fifth inning and a couple of strikeouts with runners in scoring position ended the threat in the sixth.

Santa Ana also added four errors, which led to four total unearned runs that cut starting pitcher Nathan Cachu's day short.

Cachu went two innings, giving up three runs (one earned) and six hits. He was followed by Jay Edwards who threw four innings with three strikeouts two earned runs and just one hit. Jacob Ayala came in for a short period before sustaining an injury and then Michael Arsenault finished the day with a solid three innings, no hits, one strikeout performance.

Third baseman Juan Gonzalez did the bulk of the damage for the Dons at the plate with two hits and three runs batted in while shortstop Raymond Villanueva pitched in with a hit and an RBI.

SAC is now 1-1 in their Orange Empire Series with the Rustlers and fall to a record of 19-17, 7-10. Game three of the series will take place on Saturday at Golden West College starting at 12:00 p.m.
