SANTA ANA, Calif. – Although the Santa Ana pitching staff didn't allow an earned run in the game, the Dons fell to the Fullerton Hornets 3-0 in game two of their Orange Empire Conference series on Thursday afternoon.
Nathan Cachu got the start for the Dons and went five and one third innings, giving up three hits and three unearned runs. Jay Edwards went the rest of the way, striking out five while giving up just two hits in three and two thirds innings.
Santa Ana struggled at the plate as they recorded just five hits with six strikeouts while leaving seven runners stranded on base. In the seventh inning, the Dons loaded the bases for a chance to get back in the game. On the first pitch of the at bat, outfielder William Meissner slapped a routine ground ball to the shortstop, ending the threat and the Don's best opportunity to get on the board.
The Dons were shutout for just the second time all season, dropping them to a record of 10-11, 0-5. Fullerton improves to 11-9, 4-1 with the win.
On Friday, the Dons will finish their series against Fullerton on the road at 2:00 p.m. as the game has been moved up from original date and time of Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
