SANTA ANA, Calif. - Santa Ana Women's Soccer kicked off the 2022 season on Friday afternoon as they hosted Palomar College.
Although the Dons were short-handed with a few starters being held out, they managed to gain an early advantage on the Comets as they scored in the 45th minute.
Freshman forward Diana Hernandez curved a ball into the top right corner of the goal on a cross from Ximena Barreras to give SAC a 1-0 lead.
The Dons seemed to have the match under control until Palomar struck back in the 81st minute on a ball that just cleared the fingertips of midfielder turned goalkeeper, Cecilia Salmeron.
The score would remain the same, giving Santa Ana a draw in their season opener while Palomar saw their record move to 2-0-1.
SAC will continue their season on the road on Tuesday, September 6th when they take on LA Valley at 3:00 p.m.
