SAC Track and Field Sends Three to State Championships
Toni Lopez, Eric Jiminez, and Paulino Sanchez have all qualified to compete at the 2017 CCCAA Track and Field State Championships in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter events.
CERRITOS, Calif. – The Don's Track and Field team continued its success at the 2017 CCCAA Southern California Championships with a few top 10 finishes in the Men's and Women's 5,000-meter events.
Sophomore Toni Lopez was on top of her game again as she took second on the podium with a time of 17:57.86 in the 5,000-meter race. In the same race, Santa Ana's Lizbeth Luciano-Luis had a solid performance and finished 15th with a time of 19:05.78.
In the men's 5,000-meter event, the Dons had two athletes finish in the top 10. Freshman Eric Jimenez impressed with a seventh-place finish, coming in at 15:28.57. His teammate Paulino Sanchez was right behind him and placed eighth with a time 15:29.56, while Brian Ambrocio claimed 17th place by recording a time of 15:44.93.
By placing in the top eight, the two Jimenez and Sanchez will join Toni Lopez in the State Championships for the 10,000 and 5,000-meter events. The 2017 CCCAA State Championships will be held at American River College in Sacramento, Calif. on May 19-20.
