Vanessa Ramirez and Joe Covarrubias Named Male and Female Scholar Athlete of the Year

SANTA ANA - The Santa Ana College athletic department honored its 2014-2015 Scholar Athletes during halftime of the women’s basketball game against Riverside City College. In total, 88 student-athletes were recognized as Scholar Athletes.

At the conclusion of the recognition ceremony, Assistant Director of Athletics and Sports Information, Jason Kehler, awarded the Male and Female Scholar Athlete of the Year awards. The Male Scholar Athlete of the Year was Joe Covarrubias of the football team and the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year was Vanessa Ramirez of the women’s basketball team.

Both Covarrubias and Ramirez will receive a $1,500 scholarship from the Santa Ana College Athletic Hall of Fame at the 2015 Ed Arnold Golf Classic held on May 5 at Mission Viejo Country Club.

Student-athletes are recognized for earning at least a 3.0 GPA and a minimum of 12 units while competing for an intercollegiate team at Santa Ana College.
